Tom Donaldson

Field and Farm Service Technician

Tom grew up with boots in the dirt on his family’s sixth-generation cattle and cropping farm just outside Gunnedah, NSW a property first settled by his ancestors in 1863. The farm, known for its wheat, barley,  and canola production, is where Tom learned early the realities of agriculture: from the rhythm of harvest seasons to the importance of machinery maintenance and risk-based decision-making.

Tom went to school in Gunnedah and spent his childhood alongside his twin brother, Lewis (older by just seven minutes), getting into classic farm mischief whether it was sneaking off on motorbike adventures or helping with paddock work long before most kids were trusted near a header. By the age of 12, Tom was already sharpening his focus and hand-eye coordination through competitive shooting with the Gunnedah Pistol Club, a hobby he continues today. These early experiences shaped a deep understanding of both the technical and practical aspects of farming from machinery troubleshooting to the nuances of crop production under dryland conditions. Now, as part of the MCX-Tech team, Tom brings that lived experience to the front line of precision agriculture.

Whether he’s setting up auto-steer systems, calibrating base stations, or supporting growers through hands-on service, Tom operates with the kind of trust, intuition, and mechanical smarts that only come from being raised on the land.
