Born and raised on a cotton farm at Breeza in the heart of the Liverpool Plains, Ben Hamparsum grew up surrounded by rows of cotton, wheat, canola, and sorghum and a deep sense of responsibility to the land.
As the youngest of two, with a sister now shaping young minds as a local teacher, Ben’s grounding in stewardship and sustainable agriculture began early. At just 11 years old, Ben left home for The Armidale School (TAS), where he boarded from Year 6 and built the independence that would carry him through life’s next chapters. After finishing school, Ben took a gap year across Australia working at Jumbuck Pastoral in the South Australian desert, on a sheep station Mobella, and later on Meda Station in the West Kimberley.
These experiences cemented both his passion for agriculture and his respect for the people who keep it moving. In 2020, Ben began a double degree in Agriculture and Business at the University of New England, where he became an active member of St Alberts College and its tight-knit rugby culture. He graduated in 2024, spent time travelling through the USA, and returned to the family farm unsure of the next move, but determined to keep learning and contributing
.Ben joined Vantage NSW in March 2025, where he now brings his on-farm knowledge, technical curiosity, and academic training to the frontlines of precision agriculture. His passion lies in helping Australian farmers adopt technologies that improve outcomes and preserve the land for future generations.Off the clock, Ben plays first grade rugby for the Red Devils, supports his family operation during busy seasons, and remains grounded in his long-term goal: to return home and take the reins of the family farm, armed with the tools and experience to lead it into the next era.
